EV Charger Installation in Markham

XB Electric installs Level 2 EV chargers at homes across Markham. A standard installation typically costs $1,500–$2,800, completed under ECRA/ESA licence #7016894, with the ESA permit and inspection included in the price.

Before confirming scope, we review your electrical panel, its main service rating, the charger model, where you park, and the route between the panel and that spot. Call (647) 401-7444 or send photos for a written estimate.

Four things move the price more than anything else:

  • the distance and route from your panel to the charger

  • whether the panel can take a new 240-volt circuit

  • whether the charger is hardwired or fed from an approved receptacle such as a NEMA 14-50

  • whether it sits inside a garage or outdoors on a driveway or exterior wall — outdoor locations need a weather-rated unit and a wiring method to match

The charging unit itself runs $500–$1,200 depending on brand, amperage and connector. We install Tesla Wall Connectors along with FLO, ChargePoint, Grizzl-E, Autel, Emporia and other approved equipment, using NACS or J1772 connectors depending on the unit and the vehicle. If you already own the charger, the quote covers installation only.

Condos and townhouses: these are a different job.

Shared building infrastructure and board approval are involved, and installations commonly run $3,000–$10,000+. Send us the parking level, panel location and any board requirements and we will quote it separately.

Capacity check

Do You Need a Panel Upgrade, or Will Load Management Do?

We run a load calculation on your existing service before quoting, so you know the answer before you commit to anything.

An EV charger is a continuous load, which means the breaker has to be rated above the charger’s actual draw — a 40-amp charger needs a 50-amp breaker, a 48-amp charger needs a 60-amp breaker.

On a 200-amp service with spare breaker spaces, that is usually straightforward. On a 100-amp service, or a panel that is already full, there are two ways forward.

  • $1,000–$1,500 Load-management device

A load-management device shares available capacity between the charger and the rest of the house. It costs $1,000–$1,500 and often removes the need to replace the service at all.

  • $3,000–$5,000+ Service upgrade

The alternative is a 200-amp service upgrade at $3,000–$5,000+. We tell you which one applies before the work is booked, not after.

A service upgrade also involves Alectra Utilities, the electricity distributor for Markham. We coordinate that work alongside the ESA notification and confirm the timeline with you before scheduling.

Scope of work

What the Installation Includes

  • Load calculation and panel capacity review
  • A dedicated 240-volt circuit: breaker, conductors, and conduit where required
  • Mounting the charger, or installing an approved receptacle
  • Testing the circuit and confirming the charger operates
  • ESA notification, inspection, and documentation

Most standard installations are finished in a single visit. A panel or service upgrade extends that, and we flag it before the day rather than on it.

Permits and inspection

Do You Need a Permit to Install an EV Charger in Markham?

Yes. A new 240-volt EV charger circuit requires an ESA notification and inspection anywhere in Ontario. Any contractor doing that work for you has to hold an ECRA/ESA licence — that licence is what allows them to file the notification in the first place.

XB Electric files it under ECRA/ESA #7016894, handles the inspection, and gives you the documentation once the work is approved. Both are included in the quoted price rather than added to the final invoice.

Send photos of:

  • .The electrical panel with the door open, breakers visible
  • .The main breaker rating
  • .The electrical meter
  • .Where the charger will go
  • .The route from the panel to that spot
  • .The charger label or model number, if you already own one

Include the approximate distance in feet and your vehicle model. We review the photos, confirm the scope and the price, then book the installation. If the setup needs an on-site look before it can be quoted, we say so before quoting rather than after.
